Srinagar, May 3 -- The Jammu and Kashmir administration placed Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under ''house arrest'' and did not allow him to offer congregational Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid, the managing body of the grand mosque said.

In a statement, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid said its president and Mirwaiz was again placed under house arrest at his residence this morning, by the authorities.

" Neither was he allowed to address the faithful at Jama Masjid Srinagar nor offer obligatory Friday prayers, " the statement said.
