Nigeria, May 1 -- The House of Representatives has ordered the suspension of the increase in electricity tariff by the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.

This decision came after motions were brought forth by Shehu Ajilo and Kama Nkem Karama during the Tuesday session.

NERC's decision to hike electricity tariffs, particularly for customers classified under Band A, who receive 20 hours of electricity supply daily, stirred widespread discontent.

The tariff adjustment, which went into effect on April 3, saw costs surge to N225 per kilowatt (kW), a significant jump from the previous rate of N66.

Additionally, Shehu Ajilo brought attention to the ongoing fuel scarcity issue, prompting swift action from the House.
