Dhaka, March 10 -- State Minister for Finance Waseqa Ayesha Khan has advocated for at least one female independent director in each listed company to improve women's empowerment.

According to data presented by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), women's participation in listed companies's boards has declined in recent years.

"I have requested Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Mr Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam to ensure at least one female independent director in each listed company," Ms Khan told a seminar titled "Ring the bell for gender equality" in the DSE Head Office in the capital's Nikunja-2 area on Sunday.
