KATHMANDU, March 3 -- A group of civil society leaders has requested Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balen Shah to apologize for the indiscriminate use of force against street vendors.

Over 30 civil society leaders penned an open letter to Mayor Balen Shah on Sunday, expressing objection to the inhumane treatment of street traders involving the use of sticks on sensitive body parts, including the head, even after gaining control.

In the open letter, Mayor Balen has been urged to take responsibility for this human rights violation as the head of the metropolis.
