New Delhi, May 9 -- The Indian Council of Medical Research and the National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN) have jointly released a comprehensive set of 17 dietary guidelines aimed at preventing nutrient deficiencies and addressing the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases in India.

These guidelines have undergone rigorous academic and scientific review to ensure their accuracy and effectiveness, said the top research bodies.

They "are designed as easily understandable and practicable approaches for ensuring diet diversity to meet the requirements of essential nutrients and prevent NCDs among people of all age groups across India".
