Manila, May 7 -- The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has placed its Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) in Taiwan on high alert after two magnitude 5.9 earthquakes rocked the island just minutes apart on Monday.

"There are no immediate reports of injuries among overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), but MWOs in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung are reaching out to Filipino leaders, communities, employers, and trade associations to ascertain the status of OFWs," the DMW said in an advisory late Monday.

The agency's MWOs, together with the Overseas Workers' Welfare Administration (OWWA) Offices are working with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), headed by chairperson Silvestre Bello III, in closely monitoring the situation.
