Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 14 -- India earned USD 27 billion from tourism in the last financial year and 13.92 million jobs were created during the past four years in this sector, Union Minister of State for Tourism Alphons Kannanthanam here on Monday said.

Addressing a press conference here, the Minister said the tourism contributed 12.36 per cent to the total employment generation in the last year in the country. Stating that USD 234 billion was the total revenue from tourism at the global level, he said domestic tourists contributes 87 per cent and the rest was from foreign tourists as per the statistics of World Tourism Council (WTC).
