PATNA, Jan. 11 -- The state government has directed all district education officers (DEOS) to submit a list of bank branches that have been delaying opening of student accounts. The list will be sent to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The delay has hit the disbursal of various incentives worth Rs

1,900 crore to students. The deadline to transfer the amount is January 15.

The director of secondary education, Giriwar Dayal Singh, has written to all DEOS after discussions at the state-level bankers' committee (SLBC) meeting in last month.

"The RBI representatives wanted that the list of such bank branches be made available to them. All DEOS should identify such branches and furnish the list to the department," Singh wrote.
