India, Feb. 12 -- The death toll after a fire in a hotel in New Delhi's congested Karol Bagh area rose to 17 as rescuers looked for survivors on Tuesday, officials said, prompting the Delhi government to order a probe into the latest incident.

Delhi minister Satyendar Jain said "strict action" will be taken against those found guilty of negligence after the fire swept through Hotel Arpit Palace early on Tuesday. He made the comments after visiting the accident site.
