Parliament passes Lokpal amendment bill

New Delhi, July 29 -- A bill to amend the Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, 2013, was passed by parliament on Thursday doing away with the time limit for public servants to furnish details of their assets and liabilities, which as per the original act was July 31 every year.

The Lokpal and Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2016, which was passed by the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, was passed by the upper house on Thursday.

SC to examine if state entry tax violates 'freedom of trade'

New Delhi, July 18 -- A nine judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court bench will hear from Tuesday a batch of petitions by some top corporate houses and business associations challenging the imposition of entry tax by the various state governments, contending that it was violative of the freedom of trade and commerce provided under the Constitution.

Suzuki, Toshiba and Denso to make lithium-ion batteries in India

New Delhi, April 15 -- Suzuki Motor Corporation on Friday said that it has reached a basic agreement with Toshiba Corporation and Denso Corporation for establishment of a joint venture company which will produce automotive lithium-ion battery packs in India.

Utkal Express derailment: Train driver was not informed of 'unofficial' maintenance of track

New Delhi, Aug. 20 -- A preliminary inquiry into the derailment of Utkal Express has found that driver of the train was not informed of the 'unofficial' maintenance of the track. 14 coaches of the high-speed Utkal Express derailed near Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening, killing at least 23 people and leaving nearly 90 others injured. The train was coming from Puri in Odisha and going to Haridwar in Uttarakhand.

GST: Industry in J&K demands extension of incentives to existing units, units under expansion

New Delhi, Aug. 20 -- Earlier this week the government announced relief to the industrial sector in the hilly areas by giving partial refund from the central governments share of GST to eligible units under the GST who were availing the exemption.
