Sri Lanka, Jan. 23 -- Colombo, January 23, 2024: In a statement made today in Parliament, Electricity and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera dismissed media reports suggesting outstanding electricity bills for the Parliament and the President's Office. The minister categorically stated that there are no unpaid amounts in the electricity bills of these prominent government institutions.

Responding to statements reportedly made by Ranjan Jayalal, the General Secretary of the Ceylon Electrical Workers' Union, Minister Wijesekera called on the Speaker to summon Jayalal before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee. The minister urged an inquiry into the statements made by Jayalal and suggested legal action if necessary.
