Sri Lanka, April 29 -- Sri Lanka Transport Board Chairman Lalith de Alwis said that during the New Year, the Sri Lanka Transport Board generated an income of around Rs.1,500 million.

The chairman, who reported that this income was earned from April 5 to 16, mentioned that the Expressway buses contributed Rs.130 million within one week.

He noted that Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardhana advised that as many buses as necessary should be deployed during the New Year season to ensure that passenger traffic is not disrupted. He told the Daily News that 700 additional buses were deployed in addition to the regular fleet of buses that operate throughout the country.
