Sri Lanka, March 20 -- The Fundamental Rights (FR) petitions filed challenging the Ceylon Electricity Board's (CEB's) decision to increase electricity tariffs for the third time last year were fixed for support by the Supreme Court yesterday.

These petitions have been filed by the ex-Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Janaka Ratnayake and several other parties naming the Power and Energy Minister, Secretary to the Ministry, PUCSL and the CEB as respondents.

They have pointed out that the CEB's decision to increase the electricity tariffs further and the PUCSL approving that decision are both against the law and this move infringes the Fundamental Rights of the petitioners and the citizens of the country.
