Kolkata, Aug. 9 -- The West Bengal government observed the second anniversary of the rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital by holding a two-minute silence across government hospitals and healthcare institutions on Sunday.
The observance came after a notification by the state government on Saturday where all government hospitals, health centres and other affiliated medical institutions were asked to light lamps and observe silence from 11am to 11.02am on August 9, 2026, in memory of the victim.
The decision was reportedly taken after a meeting between Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee.
