TAMENGLONG, Feb. 20 -- There has been no super fine rice available in Tamenglong district headquarters for the past one week. When this reporter visited all the grocery shops in Tamenglong, no shop was found selling superfine rice; however, the only rice found was "Permal rice" and Meitei cheng (local rice) that too also low in quantity.
Local rice costs Rs. 45 per one kg and Permal rice cost Rs. 45 per one kg while Atta and Maida (Wheat flour) cost Rs. 35 each per one kilogram. Some women are found buying Atta to substitute the rice. When enquired about shortage of superfine rice, some shopkeepers replied that superfine rice price has been increased in Imphal.
