Mumbai, Feb. 17 -- When actor Ali Fazal worked with Judi Dench in a Hollywood film, Victoria and Abdul (2017), he played her confidante and servant, Abdul Karim. While his character needed to teach Urdu to Judi Dench, not many know that the actor did that off-screen as well. Ali is fond of the language and can read, write and speak Urdu fluently. Since Ali hails from the city of Nawabs - Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, he has grown up seeing the rich culture of Urdu at his home and around his home town. Recently, Ali was invited to talk about the use and promotion of Urdu in Hindi films at the fifth edition of Jashna-e-Rekhta in Dubai, UAE. But after the terror attack in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, Ali decided to pull out from the event to show his solidarity towards Indian jawans. A source reveals, "It is a three-day festival that aims to preserve and promote Urdu language, its literature and culture. Ali, like every other Indian citizen, was in utter shock of the inhuman attacks and reached out to the organisers to express his displeasure of what transpired and withdrew from the event. Eventually, the event altogether was cancelled leading to this year's edition being called off."...
