MAPUSA, Feb. 17 -- Former deputy chief minister, Francis D'Souza was laid to rest at Mapusa with State honours on Saturday evening amidst thousands of people including political bigwigs from across the state attending the funeral.

The 64-year old politician from Mapusa who was fondly known as Babush and represented his constituency for nearly two decades breathed his last on February 14. His body was brought in a coffin to St. Jerome's Church wrapped in the tri-colour for the funeral mass. Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Rev Filipe Neri Ferrao was the main celebrant.

During the introduction, the Archbishop said "He was always bothered about the people of Mapusa. A man of few words who was always available for the needy. He had a good family ...
