Aizawl, May 24 -- Three persons, including a young woman, died after a car veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge along National Highway-302 between Lunglei town and Hauruang village in southern Mizoram's Lunglei district, police said today.

According to police officials, the accident is believed to have taken place late on Saturday night near Riangvaite Run, close to an orphanage. The vehicle reportedly fell into a steep ravine, killing all three occupants on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Jerry Lalnunfela (41, a constable of the 2nd Battalion of the Mizoram Armed Police (MAP)), Lalhlimpuia (25) and PC Lalrintluangi (24, popularly known as "Buangi"). All three hailed from Hauruang village.
