New Delhi, May 24 -- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday indicated of making "significant progress" in negotiations involving Iran on a potential deal and suggested that a breakthrough could be announced within hours, as diplomatic efforts intensified to ease tensions in West Asia and ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz.

However, he cautioned that negotiations were still underway and "not final progress" has been reached.

"I do think perhaps there is the possibility that in the next few hours the world will get some good news," Rubio told reporters.
