Kolkata, May 24 -- The BJP surged ahead in the Falta Assembly constituency repoll on Sunday, with party candidate Debangshu Panda opening up a massive lead from the very first round of counting, while the Trinamool Congress slipped to fourth position.
The picture had become clearer after Trinamool candidate Jahangir Khan withdrew from active contest during the repoll process.
As counting began at Diamond Harbour Women's University in South 24 Parganas on Sunday morning, the BJP quickly consolidated its dominance.
Counting started at 8 am with ballot papers being taken up first, where the BJP established an early advantage.
