India, May 24 -- A Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was shot dead near Amritsar in a shocking incident that has once again raised concerns over law and order in the state.

The victim, identified as Joga Singh, was reportedly on his way to duty when unidentified attackers targeted him during the early hours of Sunday.

Police said his body was later found with gunshot injuries, and an investigation has been launched into the case.
