traffic cop fines EV driver for puc, probe on
Jaipur, April 11 -- A traffic police assistant sub-inspector in Rajasthan's Nagaur allegedly issued a challan to an electric vehicle for not having a pollution under control (PUC) certificate, prompting an inquiry, officials said on Friday.
The incident came to light after a video surfaced on social media, which occurred on April 7 at the RTO square.
According to the officials, the ASI stopped a Tata Tiago car and issued a challan of Rs 1,700, citing the absence of the PUC certificate and tinted windows.
In the purported video, the driver is seen arguing that an electric vehicle does not require a PUC certificate, but the policeman insisted on issuing the challan as the POS machine showed "PUC nil". The vehicle is owned by a resident of Jodhpur and was being driven by his brother.
District Transport Officer Avdhesh Chaudhary said EVs do not require a PUC certificate, and the matter needs to be understood properly by the concerned personnel.
The challan appeared to have been issued by mistake, and the matter is being examined, Traffic in-charge Shivdev Ram said.
Further action will be taken based on the inquiry report, the officials said. pti...
