Probe launched into theft of historic lightning conductor at Nuwara Eliya Post Office
Sri Lanka, May 23 -- An investigation has been launched by the Nuwara Eliya Police into the theft of a historically valuable lightning conductor installed at the historic Nuwara Eliya Post Office building.
Employees engaged in renovation work at the post office initially discovered that the copper-containing iron strip connected from the lightning conductor to the ground had been removed.
Following this discovery, senior officials were informed, and the Central Province Archaeology Commissioner filed a written complaint with the Nuwara Eliya Police on April 29, requesting an investigation into the incident.
Police investigations have revealed that the lightning conductor had previously attracted suspicious attention from outsiders.
