RI seeks alternatives routes to cut internet reliance on Singapore
Jakarta, June 9 -- Indonesia is moving to bolster its digital sovereignty by establishing alternative network routes, aiming to break its near-total reliance on Singapore, which currently handles 90 percent of the archipelago's international internet traffic.
The Communication and Digital Affairs Ministry warned that this severe over-dependence creates a critical bottleneck, threatening Indonesia's ambitions to expand its digital economy and transition into artificial intelligence (AI).
"Honestly, 90 percent of our traffic now depends on Singapore," Denny Setiawan, the ministry's Director of Strategy and Policy for Digital Infrastructure, said during the Selular Award 2026 on Monday.
