Shillong, Feb. 16 -- Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan on Friday reiterated the government's commitment towards peace talks with the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

Addressing the Assembly on the first day of the budget session, Chauhan said, "The government is committed to bring lasting peace to the State and once again reiterates that it is open to talks with the HNLC within Indian's constitutional framework and in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs."

Moreover, he said that it is important to secure peace for ensuring prosperity of the citizens.
