Dhaka, April 26 -- The BNP has taken action against 64 party leaders for defying the party's decision to boycott the first phase of the upazila polls.

Among these leaders, 24 were contesting for the position of upazila chairman, 21 for vice-chairman, and 19 for female vice-chairman. Party senior leaders have stated that those who fail to provide satisfactory explanations or do not respond will face expulsion from all positions within the party, including primary membership.

An assistant office secretary of the BNP, speaking anonymously, disclosed that as of Tuesday night, 64 BNP leaders had received show cause notices, requiring them to respond within 48 hours at the party's Naya Paltan central office.
