Dhaka, Feb. 20 -- Bangladesh witnessed the first ever successful separation of twins, joined at the spine, after a 15-hour surgery on Monday night.

Surgeons at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) conducted the separation procedure of the conjoined twins, Nuha and Naba.

A 100-member medical team, including 39 expert physicians led by BSMMU Dean, Faculty of Surgery, Prof Dr Mohammad Hossain, performed the surgery from 9 am to 12 pm on Monday.

Doctors confirmed that the babies are doing well after the surgery, and they are now in the intensive care unit.

The first phase of the surgery to separate the attached spine of the babies was performed on January 31 last year.
