Sri Lanka, April 8 -- April 30, 2024 is the International Day to End Corporal Punishment; physical abuse is the most common form of abuse affecting 1.3 billion children annually around the world.

However, neither the Government of Sri Lanka nor the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) seem to recognise the significance of this day despite the fact that Sri Lanka was bestowed the honour of being the only South Asian Path-finding country committed to ending violence against children, Sustainable Development Goal 16.2 in 2017. Ironically, the National Plan to End Violence Against Children (NPEVAC) collapsed in 2018.
