Nigeria, April 18 -- In 1987, I received one of the highest privileges of my career in the 1980s when I was invited to give the Convocation Lecture at the College of Education, Sokoto, later renamed the Shehu Shagari College of Education. I spoke on the leadership values as provided in the ideas of the reformer and leader, Usmanu Danfodiyo. The Sultan and palace dignitaries graced the occasion. We later paid a courtesy call on His Eminence, a tradition that I have followed since then, up until the current Sultan (Dr) Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar, whom we have visited no less than three times.
