Nigeria, March 14 -- President Bola Tinubu has written the Senate, seeking the repeal of the Access to Higher Education Act, 2023, otherwise known as the Student Loan Act, and a re-enactment of a fresh one.

Mr Tinubu's action is coming a day after the announcement of a temporary suspension of the commencement of the student loan system. The law was put in place to allow Nigerian students in tertiary institutions to access low-interest loans to complete their studies.

According to a memo addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and dated 14 March, Mr Tinubu is seeking the repeal of the existing law, and has submitted a fresh bill to be passed into law.
