Nigeria, March 14 -- President Bola Tinubu has written the Senate, seeking the repeal of the Access to Higher Education Act, 2023, otherwise known as the Student Loan Act, and a re-enactment of a fresh one.

Mr Tinubu's action is coming a day after the announcement of a temporary suspension of the commencement of the student loan system. The law was put in place to allow Nigerian students in tertiary instoitutions to access low interest loans to complete their studies.

According to a memo addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and dated 14 March, Mr Tinubu is seeking the repeal of the existing law, and has submitted a fresh bill to be passed into law.
