BHUBANESWAR, March 22 -- BJD leader and former minister Dr Damodar Rout was almost brain-dead, informed his MLA-son Sambit Routray on Thursday.

As per Sambit, his father suffered a cardiac arrest on March 18. Initially, the family rushed Dr Rout to the Capital Hospital and later shifted him to a private hospital here.

However, according to Sambit, the doctors at the Capital Hospital did not provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) during the crisis situation despite several requests, a charge which the Capital Hospital authorities refuted.

Sambit said there was a delay of 15 to 20 minutes in shifting his father to the private hospital. As a result, his brain suffered extensive damage due to lack of oxygen supply to the brain.
