DIMAPUR, Feb. 9 -- Taking cognizance of the assault on a college student by some police personnel in New Showba village by some police personnel, the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC) on Friday (February 09) asked the state police chief to submit a report on the incident within one week.

The 19-year-old BA second-semester student of Tetso College, Sovima under Chomoukedima district, Moalong Jamir, was allegedly assaulted by the Anti Vehicle Theft Squad (AVTS) of Nagaland police on January 29, resulting in damage to his left eardrum, a fractured spinal cord and a swollen kidney.

Various student bodies of the state condemned the assault on the student.
