Assam: Sarbananda Sonowal, Gaurav Gogoi among 35 candidates contesting for 1st phase poll
GUWAHATI, March 30 -- Altogether 35 candidates are in the race for five Lok Sabha seats in Assam for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections slated on April 19.
Five Lok Sabha constituencies - Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Kaziranga and Sonitpur - will go to polls in the first phase.
Saturday was the last day for the withdrawal of the nomination.
Independent candidate Baba Kurmi withdrew his nomination from the Jorhat Lok Sabha seat on Saturday.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi are in the fray for the first phase of polls.
Apart from Sonowal, two other candidates are in the fray from Dibrugarh's seat. They are Manoj Dhanowar (AAP), Sarbananda Sonowal (BJP) and Lurinjyoti Gogoi (AJP).
