New Delhi, April 1 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people of Odisha on Utkal Diwas. Modi posted on X: " Wishing everyone a very Happy Utkala Dibasa! This day reminds us of the rich culture and heritage of Odisha and its dynamic people. The state has made a rich contribution to national progress. I pray for the success and prosperity of the people of Odisha."

Odisha Day, also Utkala Dibasa, is celebrated on 1 April in the Indian state of Odisha in memory of the formation of the state as a separate state out of Bihar and Orissa Province with addition of Koraput District and Ganjam District from the Madras Presidency on 1 April 1936.

"Utkal" is an ancient name for the region, celebrating the rich history of Odisha.
