Afghanistan, April 19 -- America vetoed the draft resolution of the Security Council for Palestine's membership in the United Nations.

Britain and Switzerland abstained from voting on this draft, but 12 other members of the Security Council voted in favor.

The US has stated that the formation of a Palestinian state should be through direct negotiations between Israel and Palestinian self-governing bodies, not through UN mechanisms.

Israel has stated that it will not allow the formation of an independent Palestinian government and considers it a security threat.
