Afghanistan, Feb. 26 -- On February 26, Maryam Nawaz, a senior leader of the PML-N and daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, made history by becoming the first woman Chief Minister of a province in Pakistan. She described her election to head the Punjab province as an 'honour' for every woman in the country.

According to reports, she secured 220 votes to become the chief minister of a province in Pakistan.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif is from the Pakistan Muslim League and is the daughter of Nawaz Sharif, former Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Rana Aftab Khan, her rival nominee from the Sunni Ittehad Council, failed to secure votes due to his party's election sanctions.
