Afghanistan, Feb. 5 -- The Taliban official claims that 21 million people in Afghanistan lack access to clean drinking water due to climate change.

Abdul Salam Haqani, the Deputy Head of the Taliban's Environmental Department, stated on Monday, January 5th, that the wars have caused Afghanistan to suffer "serious harm" from climate change.

Previously, the United Nations had announced that climate change had reduced people's access to water throughout Afghanistan.

The organization held a meeting in the city of Herat in May this year that focused on climate impacts in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is one of the countries with the lowest readiness to cope with climate change-induced shocks.
