Mumbai, May 2 -- State-owned entity Coal India Ltd (CIL) announced on Wednesday that its coal production for April rose by 7.3 percent to reach 61.8 million tonnes (MT).

In the same month of the previous fiscal year, the company had produced 57.6 MT of coal, as stated in a filing to the BSE.

CIL, which accounts for over 80 percent of domestic coal production, also reported a 3.2 percent increase in coal offtake, reaching 64.3 MT last month compared to 62.3 MT in the corresponding period last year.

Coal offtake refers to the quantity of dry fuel supplied from the pitheads.

Among the 61.8 MT of coal produced by CIL last month, the highest share came from Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) with 16 MT, followed by South Eastern Coalfields (SEC...
