Manila, Jan. 28 -- Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III expressed hope that the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), which would create a new autonomous region in Muslim Mindanao, would finally clear the way to the island's rapid and sustainable development after decades of conflict.

Dominguez said in a statement on Monday that the BOL was resoundingly approved in the plebiscite held last Jan. 21 amid renewed optimism that the issues behind the decades-old strife that divided Mindanao have been largely resolved and that the promise of development for its people would finally be realized.
