Bhubaneswar, Jan. 15 -- All government hospitals and medical colleges across Odisha will now provide free eye care to all under the Sunetra Yojana, which was launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar today.
"The Sunetra Yojana will provide free glasses to persons of all age groups having eye defects apart from free eye care at government hospitals and medical colleges. It will also provide free eye operation for cataracts," informed Health department Secretary Pramod Kumar Meherda.
According to sources, around Rs 680 crore will be spent under the scheme in the first five years. Till now, 58,125 glasses have been distributed under the scheme at PEETHA camps, including 19,819 to students and 38,306 among senior citizens, adde...
