New Delhi, Jan. 28 -- In a major boost to the ambitious 'Make in India' initiative in the country's defence sector, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the country's first private-sector Armoured Systems Complex (ASC) in the western coastal town of Hazira, Gujarat on January 19, 2019.

This is the first private facility in India where Indian Army's K-9 Vajra (Thunderbolt) - a variant of the Hanwha Techwin K-9 Thunder 155 mm/52-calibre tracked self-propelled howitzer (SPH) - is already being manufactured.

ASC at Hazara has been developed by one of India's largest multi-national firms and leading construction company Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
