India, Feb. 18 -- Of the many promises on which the BJP-led government came to power, one assurance stands out: creation of two crore jobs every year. Time and again various reports and Opposition parties have called the bluff of Narendra Modi government on this count. The latest is a 'leaked report' of the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) which shows that unemployment rate stood at a whopping 45-year high of 6.1 per cent in 2017-18.

The 'report' nails the lie of many official pronouncements in this regard. For example, last year, the Prime Minister stated that seven million jobs were created in 2017.
