India, Feb. 18 -- National Peace Movement was the fruit of collective reflection and discussion of over two hundred people from all walks of life who had gathered together from twelve states to participate in the first National Peace Convention from 30 January to 1 February in Indore. It was a proactive response of half a dozen Rotarians under the leadership of Rtn. Fr. Varghese Alengaden who believed in lighting a candle instead of cursing the darkness. They wanted to create a forum for people and organisations that were committed to promote peace in the country through constructive activities. They were motivated to do this because peace and conflict prevention/ resolution have been among the focus areas of Rotary International.
