Manipur, Feb. 12 -- In the midst of the uncertainty the northeast region is in against the backdrop of the ethnic churnings, the idea of a "Region State" first proposed by Kenichi Ohame a decade ago is worth probing. The Japanese thinker and management guru was of the opinion that blind faith to the concept "Nation State" should now be abandoned and replaced by a broader and more liberal "Region State". According to him, the "Nation State" has in the modern era and the paradigmic changes world economy and politics have gone through, is now dysfunctional. Sanjib Baruah, in his new book, "Durable Disorder" (Oxford, 2005, Rs 495) takes the cue from this idea and argues why India's new "Look East" policy is extremely relevant to the Northeast. ...
