SHIMLA, Jan. 11 -- Rajeshwar Singh Negi, chairman of Social Welfare Council of India, a non-governmental organization (NGO) on Thursday said his council has written a letter to chief minister Jai Ram Thakur demanding constitution of a State Road Safety Council, under Section 215 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1998.

Negi said that in a 10-year-old study conducted by the NGO, it was found that annually over 3,000 deaths, involving public transport vehicles took place in the state. "95% of the road accidents are avoidable but Himachal continues to report most road accidents among hills states," Negi said.

The council says all schools with a strength of 50 students should be provided with school buses under Himachal Road Transport Corporation. It shou...
