Sri Lanka, Feb. 18 -- The Wildlife and Conservation Department has commenced an investigation on the death of a leopard after its carcass was found in the Lindula, Hatton area last Saturday, DWC sources said.

The 4 feet 7 inch long leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) was found by Haggala Wildlife Department Range officials. The leopard caught in a trap was found dead by Wildlife officers.

Two leopard deaths were reported during last month.

DWC sources revealed that the leopard was found dead on a tea estate around 7.30 a.m. last Saturday. The carcass was then sent to the Randenigala Central Vetrinary Division for the post mortem.
