GUWAHATI, Jan. 21 -- The State government today decided to give ten per cent reservation for economically backward classes in government jobs. The decision was announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary after a cabinet meeting here today.

The cabinet also decided to release Rs 95 crore to the water resources department for embankment repair and relief for flood affected farmers. The government will provide Rs 5,000 each to five lakh farmers under agriculture implements and tools scheme.

The cabinet also decided to fix the minimum salary for labour welfare officers in tea gardens at Rs 15,000. The government will construct hospitals under the Assam Tea Plantation Provident Fund and Pension Fund Scheme.
