Roche: Avastin May Help Glioblastoma Patients

Switzerland, Aug. 11 -- Roche Holding AG has revealed that a novel research of cancer medicine Avastin demonstrated that it considerably lengthened progression-free endurance of individuals suffering from glioblastoma, a severe kind of brain cancer.

The Swiss drugmaker stated that the phase III AVAglio research achieved one of its chief aims of enhancing endurance among the patients.

The world's largest maker of cancer drugs revealed that the study demonstrated that with the addition of the drug to radiation and temozolomide chemotherapy, the patients were able to survive for a longer period and their disorder was also not aggravated.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and most aggressive malignant primary brain tumor in humans, involving glial cells and accounting for 52 percent of all functional tissue brain tumor cases and 20 percent of all intracranial tumors.
