Kolkata, March 11 -- In the bare courtyard of her thatched hut next to a pond in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Paraganas, 52-year-old Maya Kandar is beaming, perhaps the first time in two years she has felt any joy. Her family has always owned eight bighas of farm land in the village. But between March and April 2022, that plot of ancestral land, like so many others across the islands that form part of the Sunderbans delta, was grabbed and turned into a fish farm.
